Key Strengths of Gear Flow Meters for Measuring Tiny Instantaneous Flows

Core Advantages of Gear Flow Meters in Micro-Instantaneous Flow Measurement

Relying on its positive displacement direct measurement principle, the gear flow meter offers the following irreplaceable advantages in capturing tiny instantaneous flows (such as pulsating flows, short pulses, and intermittent injections):

Zero dead zone, no start-up threshold
As long as fluid flows, the gears rotate and output a pulse signal. There is no “unmeasurable” dead zone or minimum start-up flow rate. Even an instantaneous flow equivalent to a single tooth cavity displacement (which can be as low as the microliter level) can be reliably measured.

Millisecond-level dynamic response
The gears have extremely low rotational inertia, allowing them to closely follow instantaneous changes in flow with a response time reaching the millisecond level. Unlike thermal or differential pressure flow meters, no signal averaging is required, so real flow spikes or short-term fluctuations are not smoothed out.

Ultra-high resolution for fine characterization of transient processes
The volume per pulse of a micro gear flow meter can be as low as the milliliter or even nanoliter level. Within a very short time window, it can output multiple clear pulses, enabling accurate reconstruction of the instantaneous flow waveform and totalized volume.

Resistance to pulsation and pressure interference
Using sealed chambers formed by gear meshing to directly “convey” the liquid, the measurement result depends only on the number of gear rotations and is almost unaffected by transient pressure fluctuations, fluid compressibility, or flow pulsation, ensuring stable and reliable data.

Suitability for high-viscosity and non-ideal conditions
The higher the viscosity, the smaller the internal leakage, making the measurement even more accurate. For measuring instantaneous flow of high-viscosity or non-ideal fluids such as micro-lubrication, gel dispensing, and fuel injection, the gear flow meter is often the only viable choice.
