Precautions for using oval gear flowmeter

Release time: 2026-04-16

  1. A matching filter should be installed before the flowmeter, with the outlet of the filter directly connected to the inlet of the flowmeter. The arrows on both bodies should align with the liquid flow direction.
  2. If the measured liquid contains gas, a gas-eliminating filter should be installed before the flowmeter.
  3. Regardless of whether the pipeline is installed vertically or horizontally, the oval gears in the flowmeter should be positioned horizontally (i.e., the dial face should be perpendicular to the ground).
  4. If the flowmeter is correctly installed but the readings are difficult to see, the counter can be rotated 180 degrees or 90 degrees as needed.
  5. Before installing a new flowmeter, use a bamboo stick to push the oval gears several times from the outlet. If they do not move, soak them in diesel oil (to remove any sediment left from factory calibration).
  6. The flow control valve should be installed at the inlet of the flowmeter, and the shutoff valve at the outlet. When using the shutoff valve, open it slowly and avoid sudden opening to prevent water hammer.
  7. Before installing the flowmeter on a new pipeline, the pipeline should be flushed. During flushing, use a straight pipe section (in place of the flowmeter) to prevent welding slag and debris from entering the flowmeter.
  8. Do not use water to calibrate flowmeters made of cast iron or cast steel.
  9. The flow rate of the flowmeter during operation must not exceed the technical requirements. It is optimal to operate the flowmeter at 50–80% of its maximum flow rate.
  10. If the measured liquid is chemically corrosive, a stainless steel flowmeter must be used.
