Application of Oval Gear Flowmeters in Marine Fuel Measurement
Release time: 2026-09-23
To ensure the normal operation of ships, fuel measurement for main propulsion engines, auxiliary engines, and fuel oil boilers is very important. Main engines, auxiliary engines, and boilers are the main energy-consuming equipment on board, and their fuel consumption is directly related to power supply, navigation safety, energy efficiency management, and emission control. Oval gear flowmeters are positive displacement flowmeters. They have the characteristics of high measurement accuracy, insensitivity to changes in fuel viscosity, suitability for high-viscosity heavy fuel oil, and low requirements for upstream and downstream straight pipe sections. Therefore, they are commonly used for fuel measurement of the above-mentioned equipment.
Specifically, oval gear flowmeters can be installed respectively in the fuel supply and return lines of main and auxiliary engines, and the net fuel consumption can be calculated from the difference between the supply flow and the return flow. A flowmeter can be installed in the boiler fuel supply line to monitor its fuel consumption. To ensure accurate and reliable measurement, a filter should be installed upstream to prevent impurities from jamming the gears, and regular calibration and maintenance should be carried out.
In conclusion, oval gear flowmeters provide a stable and accurate means of measuring fuel consumption for main engines, auxiliary engines, and boilers, and are an important safeguard for ship energy efficiency management and economical operation.
