How Does an Oval Gear Flow Meter Work?
Release time: 2026-10-22
The oval gear flowmeter consists of a flow transmitter and a counting mechanism. If a radiator is installed between the transmitter and the counting mechanism, it forms a high-temperature type flowmeter. The flow transmitter consists of a metering chamber equipped with a pair of oval gear rotors and a sealed coupling; the counting mechanism includes a reduction gear mechanism, an adjustment mechanism, a counter, and a signal transmitter.
Inside the metering chamber, a pair of oval gears and the cover plate form crescent-shaped cavities, which serve as the metering unit for flow. The oval gears rotate under the action of the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the flowmeter, continuously metering the liquid through the crescent-shaped cavities and delivering it to the outlet. For each revolution of the gears, the volume of liquid passing through is four times the volume of the crescent-shaped cavity. The sealed coupling transmits the total number of revolutions and the rotational speed of the oval gears to the counting mechanism or signal transmitter, thereby obtaining the cumulative flow and instantaneous flow of the liquid in the pipeline.
The oval gear flowmeter has many advantages, such as a wide measuring range, high accuracy, low pressure loss, strong viscosity adaptability, the ability to measure high-temperature and high-viscosity liquids, convenient calibration, and installation recommendations. When matched with electronic display instruments, it can realize remote centralized control of cumulative, batch, and instantaneous flow.
